Product Manager

Product Management

Product Management is strategically driving the development, market launch, and continual support and improvement of a company’s products.

Product Manager

Product manager is strategic in practice and “focused on the long-term vision for the product, on observing trends in the marketplace, on identifying new potential outcomes or themes to be supported by the product, on supporting the sales/adoption of the product, and on ensuring the product meets the needs of the value streams the product is involved with.” A product manager is the person who identifies the customer need and the larger business objectives that a product or feature will fulfill, articulates what success looks like for a product, and rallies a team to turn that vision into a reality.

Product Manager roles

  • Long-term strategy
  • Product vision
  • Market trends
  • Identification of new opportunities

A Product Manager is typically involved in

  • Product marketing
  • Supporting product sales
  • Budgeting
  • Long-term envisioning
  • Customer care
  • Supporting the solution-delivery team

Product Manager responsibilities

Specific responsibilities vary depending on the size of the organization.

  • In larger organizations, for instance, product managers are embedded within teams of specialists. Researchers, analysts, and marketers help gather input, while developers and designers manage the day-to-day execution, draw up designs, test prototypes, and find bugs. These product managers have more help, but they also spend more time aligning these stakeholders behind a specific vision.

  • On the flip side, product managers at smaller organizations spend less time getting everyone to agree, but more time doing the hands-on work that comes with defining a vision and seeing it through.

Broadly speaking, though, a good product manager will spend his or her time on a handful of tasks

  • Understanding and representing user needs
  • Monitoring the market and developing competitive analyses
  • Defining a vision for a product
  • Aligning stakeholders around the vision for the product
  • Prioritizing product features and capabilities
  • Creating a shared brain across larger teams to empower independent decision-making

Staying Positive in Tough Times

😇 Staying Positive in Tough Times - Just created a very brief guide.

🎄 Decembers are mostly holiday times across globe and a Time to give yourself some peace of mind professionally and introspect.

Gist: Most importantly, talk/share with someone during tough times and do not keep everything with yourself.

Note: I have knowingly not created this document as Verbose. Feel free to reach out for elaboration or real life examples.

Design Thinking with Simulation

Design Thinking is a Human centered Prototype driven Innovation process. It was so good to attend the session, learn and brush-up so many aspects. I remember last time, in 2017 I was involved in Design Thinking domain project when Halo Bank was evolving from Bank's Lending perspective.

Observe -> Empathize -> Define -> Ideate -> Proto-type -> Test -> Execute

DFV -> Desirability, Feasibility and Viability

Due to so many happenings all around, and varied time-zone, had missed couple of trainings in recent past, opposed to the new year resolution of at least one constructive Learning per month.

Photo Description: Had Quarter Q1 and Q2 simulation. Q1 was more of learning and understand the tool and process. However, Q2 was interesting and becoming more customer centric and reaching the $1 Million Dollar revenue mark. Moreover, on the Leaderboard with 9.06 Customer Experience among 50 participants.

Open Finance in Consumer Data Right (CDR) Australia

It is so interesting to see the bud named Open Banking blossom into plethora of different petals.

In 2018, when i first started working on Open Banking for one of the largest Banks in the world. I always thought,

why Open Banking?

why not Open Everything?

as down the line, Open APIs build in each and every sectors is going to make customers life better. It would be one stop app/apps for all the sectors built by TPPs.

Now, 5 years from then, here we are.

Evolved and Evolving into many other areas. Open Banking was the term coined by someone. However, the concept is Mammoth. It would be so interesting to see how it will change from Regulatory requirement to Must have

A Customer Journey from Traditional to Disruptive
After Open Banking, it's Open Finance, Open Energy, Telecommunication and what not. According to me it could even be Education, Agriculture, Tourism and what not

I have been digressing from the main topic, due to my personal thoughts and opinions. Coming to the actual agenda to the post:

Open Finance will bring targeted datasets from across the following service providers into the CDR
1) General insurance
2) Superannuation
3) Merchant acquiring
4) Non-bank lending

According to Strategic Assessment Outcomes report published in January 2022, CDR build on the growing momentum of Open Banking by spurring rapid product development that gives consumers access to better deals and a more complete view of their finances. By prioritising a smaller mix of targeted datasets across these sectors, the CDR will unlock a broader range of higher value use cases, compared to expanding one sector at a time.

Pic Courtesy: Take by me during normal morning walk. Interestingly, it fits into the opening quote so well.

𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 🤝 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳-𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺𝘀.
🏭 Firstly, let us try to understand the meaning of both the words.

𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 - Literally, it means to produce energy by controlling and making use of natural resources. In context of an Organization, it would be to provide an outcome by leveraging the existing capabilities.

𝗔𝗹𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 - It is the state or condition of having supportive association with another person or group.

Combining both, it portrays a greater meaning of working together not only in day-to-day activities. However, making the best out of the support of an ally to grow together.

𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲, An employee is good at certain technology and after completing one of the latest certifications in that field her thought process and skills is enhanced, which is even reflecting in her work. She conveys the same to two of her colleagues, that how she leveraged the certification provided by Wipro (who has partnered with the certification providing organization). Also, she shared her smooth experience on the new process where employee need not pay up-front. Rather, they need to study for the examination and follow certain pre-requisite to get the voucher for the examination and can schedule as per their convenience and availability. Her colleagues were so glad by her gesture and got motivated to complete the same. Also, the colleagues had some cross-skill knowledge which they shared with her. Along with that there was a word of mouth within the team and beyond on this success-mantra. At the end there was a mutual growth and development, a true example of Harnessing the Allyship.

🤖 Normally, humans have tendency to compete within people/colleagues who are nearby. Although a healthy competition is required for the holistic growth and development of the ecosystem. Still, we must think broader and compete with people across the globe and most importantly compete within ourselves. In short, we must share our knowledge, experience and growth mindset with our peers, colleagues, and allies. This will lead to a win-win situation. We can benefit in the following ways:

We can benefit in the following ways:
➖ Get back knowledge in some form
➖ Learn even more while explaining and having a two-way discussion about the topic
➖ Goodwill is created
➖ Happier working environment
➖ Grow your presentation skills, if you feel that sharing it with the entire team can be fruitful for everyone

To summarise, you must try the power of giving. It always feels good to help others. You sub-consciously tend to build an aura of heathy and happy environment around yourself by leveraging the power of harnessing allyship.

📸 On a lighter note added a photograph from my recent visit to Tom n Jerry to portray the Allyship

What’s your Resolution in 2022 & on what basis do you form them?

What’s your Resolution in 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣2️⃣ & on what basis do you form them?

It may sound too much. However, I have more than a score of resolutions this year.

This is how i planned them with a slight milestone based twist:
1️⃣ Firstly, like every year, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗜 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗜 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗲?
2️⃣ Took some 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗜 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳?
3️⃣ Having 𝗯𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱 such as Health, Career, Habits etc
4️⃣ Whichever resolution is countable, the values should be towards 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰. This helps to continue in long run and we can always add-on down the line
5️⃣ Few of my resolutions are monthly/quarterly. So that by end of the month I can have a check, rather end of year. In IT Agile terms, kind of Restrospective (or 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻)

✍🏻 Let me know if it was helpful and you need some help in you resolution formation (Ignore, it if it was too much and un-necessary information).

Lastly, 𝗪𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮 𝗦𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 ✨ 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟮 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵, 𝗛𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 🙂

Note: This photograph describes the way a Tram works on the road alongwith other vehicles and passer-by smoothly. In short, Planning helps to ease out things down the line to a great extent (there will still be unexpected areas which we call experience).
